Meek as a lamb

Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Synonyms of meek: submissive, yielding, obedient, compliant, tame, biddable, tractable, acquiescent, and humble.

As I am going through the beatitudes in my posts, it makes sense that they are written in this order. In previous posts I’ve written about being poor in spirit, mourning your spiritual flaws and now we must move to having a willing spirit to let God change those imperfections.  We must be individuals who understand our spiritual poverty, mourn over our inadequacies and be willing to submit our lives to the work of God in us.

It’s not just about being meek towards our fellow man, but being meek towards our Maker. Like the lamb, having a mildness that just submits to what God truly wants to conform us to.  Making our spirit melt towards Him. When our spirit is pliable towards Him, then we are truly satisfied or “inhabiting this earth.”

Philippians 4:11 “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”  The non-spiritual person, in their rush to possess more of this world, usually misses or overlooks the best of this world.  How can one enjoy this earth when they are overtaxed with the burden of it? Such a person cannot inherit this earth God has given and becomes miserable, even with all their worldly goods.

We must set our temporal ambitions aside and become meek so that we can enjoy this life! Oh that all people would be meek. What a different world we would live in today!
