Matthew 5:4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Today I am mourning. No, nothing sad has happened. I am not bent down with grief or wearing the perverbial black dress. But Jesus said happy (blessed) is the person who mourns. How can that be?
In my last post I mentioned the previous scripture, Blessed are the poor in spirit. Being made aware of your inadequacies. Once you’ve asked God to show you your faults, I believe the next step is to mourn those faults. Mourn your shortcomings. Mourn your imperfections. Mourn to God the fact that you need Him and want to rely on Him to correct those faults. Pour your heart out to Him in grief for surely He hears our prayer and will send comfort. Comfort to know that by the grace of God we can change those faults. Comfort to have courage to correct our imperfections. Comfort to know that “He knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.” Psalms 103:14
And so today I’ve faced some of those inadequacies and am mourning… and am satisfied that the Comforter has come.
